1. Make sure that your child masters the diligence activities underlying effective learning (e.g., accurate decoding, smooth writing, good study habits, etc.) For success, it is vital that the skills be carried out with ease.
2. Provide materials that bring intellectual excitement into your child’s life and have regular discussions with him or her on topics of interest.
3. Effective writing skills are one of the central keys to success. If possible, find courses and other activities that teach high quality writing.
4. Collaborate with your child on learning how to use reference materials (in libraries, internet, etc.).
5. Offer praise when it is appropriate. At the same time, avoid being judgmental or negative.
