What You Need to Know:

• This is a sweet fairy tale kind of book.
• The story is simple, with an easy to follow plot for young readers ready to transition out of the more simple learn to read stuff.
• The story has a few elements reminiscent of the original rhyme, Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater and some plot points reminiscent of Jack and the Beanstalk.
• A very nice fall-time read.
• This book was nomintated for a 2009 Cybil Award.

Life is lovely for Peter and his wife Wanda. They have each other, their pumpkins and their goat. Until the rains came. Their house is actually a hut made out of mud. Hut + mud = disaster. After much thinking, Wanda and Peter realize they will have to sell their beloved goat in order to earn money to repair their roof. Peter heads to town during the storm with the intent to sell said goat. Along the way he meets an old man (in the manner of Jack and the Beanstalk) who buys his goat for a bag of treasure. When the old man is gone, Peter opens the bag to find he has sold his goat for a bag of seeds. Peter is furious! He throws the bag on the floor and stamps on in. In a few days, you can imagine what happened:) A large vine begins to grow that supplies Peter and Wanda with everything they need. New house (they now reside in a very large pumpkin that is immune to bad weather), more pumpkin stuffing to make and sell more pumpkin muffins and pies and ultimately money from sold muffins and pies to buy a new goat! All ends well in the quirky little pumpkin world that author Christine Graham has created.”
