Educational Website Lingo Likes: My Hero

Stories of heroism are a great source of inspiration and motivation for kids.  That’s why MY HERO is the educational website Lingo likes this week.  Here’s more about them from their website:

“The mission of MY HERO is to use media and technology to celebrate the best of humanity and to empower people of all ages to realize their own potential to effect positive change in the world.

The MY HERO website was established in 1995 as a safe, commercial-free, child-friendly environment in which people around the world could express their creative visions. It was built to enable individuals to share stories, art, short films and audio about the heroes that inspire them and, in turn, to inspire others. Over the years, educational workshops and film festivals were added to the Media Arts Program and The MY HERO Project became a platform for creative expression, collaborative learning, cross-cultural communication and activism.

Through an ever growing digital library and multimedia journal, MY HERO gives people of all ages the tools to create and share expressions of heroism with a global learning community that promotes peace, tolerance, and ecological responsibility.

The primary objectives of The MY HERO Project are to: increase participants technological and communication skills; provide resources for collaborative learning and research; encourage community engagement and activism; bridge political and religious divides to foster cross-cultural awareness; and improve the outreach capacity of individual heroes, artists and nonprofit organizations. “
