Funny Children’s Books: What’s Your Sound Hound the Hound?

Mo Willems is a clever author of funny children’s books.  What’s Your Sound Hound the Hound? is the funny tale we’re featuring this week that will surely have you and your kids laughing.  Melissa Young from Sweet on Books explains more about this book:

What You Need to Know:
• Ok…the brilliant Mo Willems’ does it again! This is a new series for the youngest, teeniest, tiniest reader.
• Now that we have established this is for the youngest of readers, my five year old still enjoys it, because he, too, is in the Mo Willems’ fan club. But he also enjoys it because the language is so simple and repetitive he could read it himself after one shared reading. So think of this as a great starter book for your brand new reader, too.
• Nice little message of kindness.
• For all those pigeons fans out there, you will find a pigeon cameo sure to delight.

Cheerful Cat the Cat is back! This time, instead of introducing us to her friends, she is asking each friend about the sound they make. Hound the Hound, Cow the Cow, and Chick the Chick all have predictable sounds. But what happens when they get to bunny, because bunnies don’t make sounds? Leave it to friendly, little Cat the Cat to find a sweet resolution, to teach your youngest readers about kindness, while teaching them to read. There are so many uses for this book, beyond sheer enjoyment: it’s perfect to teach a squirmy toddler how to sit for a story because it is nice and short; it’s also perfect for an older child on the verge of reading, because it will be a nice confidence boost; and, finally, it’s just a wonderful read-aloud with a friendly message and lively illustrations. Go Mo!
