You can still find ways to get outside and stay comfortable when the heat and humidity seem too much. Rebecca P. Cohen, author of 15 Minutes Outside: 365 Ways to Get Out of the House and Connect with Your Kids recommends a formula of shade, a breeze, and water:
1. Play ‘mosquito.’ Put some ice water into clean spray bottles for a game of tag where whomever is ‘it’ chases others to tag them with a refreshing spray!
2. Splash outside with bath toys. Put some ice water in a bowl and take your child’s bath toys outside for some water play.
3. Escape the heat of the day. Think of things that you can do early in the morning or late in the evening to enjoy the coolest parts of the day. Ride bikes or scooters; color or read a book outside; play a board or card game on a blanket; maybe even skip rocks on the water or go fishing.
