Meal Idea for Kids: Tropical Thanksgiving Salad

When thinking of fun meal ideas for kids during the holidays, rarely do you come up with the idea for fruit at Thanksgiving.  Our friends at Super Healthy Kids have created a holiday meal idea for kids that the whole family will be thankful for!

Today’s meal idea for kids: Tropical Thanksgiving Salad

“Pomegranates were down to $1.50 per fruit at my grocery store this morning.  I love pomegranates.  My kids aren’t so sold on the amazing pomegranate yet, except the juice, we love the juice. But pomegranates are fun to open and explore!

It seems there are two great ways to remove pomegranate seeds.

  • The first is to peel away the membranes under water. I love this method as it severely cuts down on the messy factor.  The juices stay in the water, rather than all over your children and floor.

Method 2 is demonstrated by Martha Stewart in this linked video.  I thought this would be messy and cumbersome, but it was actually as easy as it looks, and not messy at all!

This is my variation of our family’s favorite Thanksgiving Fruit Salad. We called it “grandma salad”.  It was basically a can of fruit cocktail and a tub of cool whip.  Till this day it is one of my favorite things to eat.  But this healthier version, is tasty too!
